We all express gratitude and joy in our unique ways when it comes to caring. At Person Centred Software, this week holds profound significance for us. Among our team are former carers and individuals who are currently caring for their parents and grandparents in various capacities.
We've designated this day to showcase the incredible narratives and sentiments shared by residents, caregivers, and those deeply involved in the sector.
Explore the inspiring stories and testimonials from everyone involved below.
Helen Dunning at Wellington Vale arranged for her care home to be on the official Spitfire flypast route on VE75 Day. The pilot dipped the Spitfire wing as it passed over the home to acknowledge and respect all of their Veterans, in particular our resident Thomas Hyom who is 102 yrs old and the last survivor of HMS Cossack.
Balhousie Luncarty care home invited the local community to add to the Luncarty Community Time Capsule with their experiences of life, good and bad, during the Coronavirus Crisis. The hope is that, when discovered in many years, future generations can learn about how the community prevailed through a global pandemic.
In January, we took 26 of our residents, who were aged between 35 – 96, wheelchair ice skating. With multiple residents having expressed a desire to go ice skating again whilst reminiscing about skating in their youth during the festive period, the team at CHD Living decided to organise a special day out for them to relive their younger days. The group, which also included two residents on end of life care, an amputee and a 35 year old recovering from a serious brain injury, wrapped up warm to enjoy turns on the rink alongside their carers. This is one example of why we are #GladtoCare.
Ron Pendry, an 88-year-old army veteran let loose as he swerved, sped and twisted his way across fields in a tank one last time to complete his bucket list wish courtesy of his care home, Goatacre Manor Care Centre, near Calne, Wiltshire.
“Throughout these unprecedented times, a remembrance & thank you party was held to remember those we lost and to express gratitude to all staff for their dedication and commitment to providing the best possible care and support. It was great to see staff relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.”
My focus always switches between the attention of our vulnerable residents and our employees. I make sure that I pay particular attention to the staff’s morale as over the years of working in the care sector I realise that the demands on the job and life stresses can have a negative effect on all of. Part of our daily working routine is a lot of fun and laughter. We make sure that our homes are a comfortable, inclusive and happy place to work where everyone is seen as not just our employee but an individual too. They also appreciate a sweet treat that I regularly send to all our employees, to express my gratitude.
